Assisted in the development of curriculum and taught a series of workshops to

students in grades 3 - 6. 

  • Students learned safe, simple stage combat techniques.engaging in universal movement concepts, such as Distance, Placement, Timing, Focus, and Practice. 

  • Students choreographed a safe stage battle and outlined character movement using a floor mural. 

  • Through discussion, students defined violence and analyzed motivations and intentions from a young actor's point of view.

Young Company

2012 – 2014

Developed curriculum and lesson plans for a rigorous, year-long classical acting program designed for teens ages 14 – 18, equipping them with intensive training in a variety of disciplines such as acting technique, voice, movement, text analysis and Shakespeare scene study. The program included numerous opportunities for participants to attend live theatre, not only at STC but also at other selected venues and theatres, and culminated each semester with a live performance for invited guests.

  • Taught Movement, Acting, Text Analysis, Shakespearean Scene Study, and Stage Combat. 

  • Choreographed and Assistant Directed inaugural production of Romeo & Juliet, which toured to Barcelona, Spain in a cultural theatrical exchange. 

  • Directed and choreographed final production of Cymbeline.

Developed curriculum and taught classes on a rotating basis.

Students learn safe stage combat techniques engaging in universal

movement concepts, such as Distance, Placement, Timing, Focus, and Practice.

  • Shakespeare Scene Study

Students focus on the relationship between the study and performance of  

Shakespearean verse through selected Shakespearean scenes.Special focus

given to character development and relationships.

  • Shakespeare’s Heroes and Villains

Students explore some of Shakespeare’s most iconic heroes and villains, examining the structure of their language and lifting them from the page and into performance. Classes culminate in the performance of a scene and/or monologue.​​

2005 – 2006

Used existing curriculum as a foundation to revise and update program curricula, evaluation plans, lesson plans, and assessment tools utilizing the “Understanding by Design” approach and outcomes-based evaluation models. 

  • Supervised a staff of five affiliated teaching artists and an education intern.

  • Assisted with the development of First Folio: Teacher Curriculum Guides.

  • Researched and wrote articles and lesson plans for the Education Department.

  • Instructed theatre arts workshops and classes for students grades 9 – 12. 

  • Served students in the District of Columbia, Virginia, and Maryland Metro Area.

Resident Teaching Artist

2003 - 2005

Developed curriculum and lesson plans, taught classes, and administered assessments for programs such as Text Alive!, the South East Project, ReAct, and other in-school residencies, engaging youth in underserved communities in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

 

Camp Shakespeare

2000 - 2006

Developed curriculum and edited scripts for two week intensive summer camps culminating in a truncated production of a Shakespearean play. Taught classes in stage combat and movement, focusing on safety, expressive gesture, and the marriage of text to physicality. Co-directed and choreographed condensed versions of Shakespeare’s plays for students ages 8 to 18.

Taught classes in performance for Round House Theatre’s volunteer Senior Acting Company. Directed spring touring performances and assisted with community talk backs.
